bio

Rachel Andes is a native of metro Detroit. She received her BFA degree in Dance Theatre Performance at the renowned Wayne State University. While at the University, she studied Russian ballet, various forms of post-modern techniques, contemporary dance, choreography, pedagogy, technology for live performance, floor work, and contact improvisation and partnering from a variety of accomplished artists. This includes Meg Paul, Dr. Biba Bell, Bryan and Shaina Baira, Dr. RAS Michael Courtney, Jessica Rajko, Hannah Andersen, Brandon Koepsell, and Lisa Lamar. Rachel is interested in movement that paints a surreal image of familiar human experiences, particularly womanhood and femininity as social constructs. She enjoys manifesting the absurdity of these social structures through her work with movement and theater. Rachel also acknowledges that a large part of her work involves respecting and understanding the environment she exists in as an artist; therefore, she aims to create work that pays homage to what has come before her, and what will remain after her.
